Tinnitus Diagnostics & Masking Devices
Tinnitus is the perception of sound within the ear, in the absence of any corresponding external sound. Often described as “ringing in the ears.”
Our team will work together to help pinpoint the most likely cause of your tinnitus. If there is no medical management for your tinnitus, a variety of options are available in our office to reduce the annoyance of it.
We strive for the reduction or elimination of your tinnitus
Sound masking therapy – desk top sound generators or ear level maskers that resemble hearing aids
Hearing aids – a well fit hearing aid has over a 60% chance of helping to mask tinnitus
Balance, Vertigo, Dizziness: Medical Evaluation
Assessment of the vestibular system
Electronystagmography testing – electrical recording of eye movements caused by positional or caloric stimulation of the inner ear balance structures
The test battery identifies the presence of dizziness or imbalance due to unequal neural messages to the vestibular system

Tympanometry is a very quick, painless procedure used to determine the status of the middle ear. It measures the movement and sound conduction ability of the eardrum at varying air pressure levels, which will help determine if there may be medically-treatable conditions in the middle ear. Tympanometry can also be used to verify that a surgically placed ventilation tube is open or patent, or whether a perforated eardrum is completely healed.
