Botox & Fillers

Botox is an injectable medication made from the botulinum toxin. It relaxes your facial muscles for a smoother appearance. Botox is an FDA-approved treatment of fine lines and deep wrinkles on the face. Popular areas to use Botox include:

• Forehead
• Between the eyebrows
• Crow’s feet
• Smile and laugh lines
• Lines around the mouth

Botox can be used along with dermal fillers to enhance your overall appearance.

Botox is categorized as a neuromodulator. When it’s used on the muscles of your face, it helps relax them for a smoother appearance of your skin. Botox also reduces nerve signals to your muscles temporarily, which can prevent the formation of new wrinkles.

In most cases, one application of Botox lasts 4-6 months, depending on how your body metabolizes the medication. Your doctor could recommend touch-ups as needed in order to maintain your results.

Other neuromodulators, including Dysport®, are available and work in the same way as Botox. Your provider can recommend one or both of these options depending on the appearance of your skin, your aesthetic goals, and the proposed treatment site.

Dermal fillers contain a compound called hyaluronic acid that is naturally occurring in your skin. As you age, your body produces less hyaluronic acid, which leads to sagging and loose skin. Dermal fillers can be used to improve fullness in your face in these areas:

• Under the eyes
• Cheekbones
• Smile and laugh lines
• Lips

Dermal fillers can be used with Botox and other neuromodulators to address any areas of your skin or face that don’t meet your aesthetic desires.

Dermal fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane® contain hyaluronic acid, which immediately plumps your skin and lips. Hyaluronic acid attracts water to the surface of your skin for long-lasting results for up to 4-6 months. Another filler, Sculptra®, contains lactic acid, which helps your skin produce more collagen over time for increased elasticity and tightness.

In many cases, patients notice an immediate difference in their appearance after dermal fillers are injected into their skin. Though some mild redness can be noticed for a couple of hours, it goes away quickly and you can see the full results within 24-48 hours.*
